Rutka

Teatr Lalek „Arlekin” im. Henryka Ryla

Country: Poland

Description:

The performance is based on a book "Rutka" by Joanna Fabicka from Łódź. The novel - awarded in 2016 with the literary award of the Polish section of IBBY - in a poetic, surreal and humorous way introduces the child's reader to the image of life in the Łódź ghetto.

The protagonist is a modern girl, ten-year-old Zosia, who lives in Łódź's Bałuty district. The child spends her vacation at home under the care of eccentric aunt Rose and begins to explore the city from a different perspective, thanks to a strange friendship with her new friend, Rutka. The new playmate is a messenger from a world that no longer exists - thanks to her, the protagonist and the spectators will experience an emotional journey into the past.

The story of Zosia's friendship with Rutka encourages empathy and a peer review of her peers from other times like in a mirror. Approaching her experience forces the redefinition of various concepts, such as fear or a sense of loneliness.
